TGI Summer!!!

Posted in Daily Updates by Amy Kimler on May 26, 2009

Everyone is so excited to be out of school for the summer!! Trace managed to make all A’s this year even while missing quite a bit of school for chemo. I can’t tell you how much he is like me 🙂 Thank you Ellis Middle School for being so supportive of Lil’ Fighter through all of this. Hopefully, chemo won’t continue into 8th grade for more than 2 or 3 weeks. Every night Trace has been thanking God in his prayers that school is almost out and he can go to chemo and not have to do makeup work! As soon as school was out our family headed to Atlanta for a soccer tournament that Maddie was in. We had a great time at the soccer tournament (thank you for the invitation TUSC 98 Blue). After the tournament we went to the Georgia Aquarium and had a great time. It is a really cool place. We also got to go to and Atlanta Braves baseball game and they won! We were going to go to Six Flags, but Trace had a bad time with neuropathy and mouth sores again. This happened last time after his second 3 day treatment. A big cause of this is the adriamycin (red devil) and luckily he is done with that one chemo! Yay! The mouth sores are going away and the neuropathy is calming down also. On Memorial Day we went to Bluegrass and played tennis and swam. Trace had a lot of fun playing tennis, but couldn’t play golf because of the neuropathy in his hands. (he couldn’t grip the clubs) This will go away very soon and he will be back to swinging the clubs! He is excited to be outside enjoying himself. This weekend (Friday night) is the Big Swim for the Little Fighter. (thebigswim.us) Trace is really excited and so are we. The t-shirts are so cool! We will wear them with pride. Thank you to everyone involved with this event. You guys rock! We love you all. Trace’ll goes back for chemo on Monday, June 1. The date has changed due to his social calendar being so full 🙂 It will be the 10th round of chemo and a 5 day stay. We are sooo almost done!!! I still don’t know when his radiation will begin, but hopefully at this hospitalization the Doctors will let me in on that. Have a great week! We love you all,

Happy Mother’s Day

Posted in Daily Updates by Amy Kimler on May 9, 2009

Let me be the first to wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day! Luckily, Trace’ll is not in the hospital and is feeling great. He got to have an inline skating lesson with his travel team, the Hendersonville Hawks, and Angela Walchuk. He had a great time, but was really beat afterwards. The good kind of tired.

Bad news… We found out his chemo treatments will be a total of 14 rather than the 12 we originally thought. I don’t know where the confusion was, but anyway Trace’ll should still finish sooner than the doctors had originally thought. Hopefully, his chemo will only go into next school year a week or two. He is still doing great and has a very positive attitude. (after he got over the initial disappointment of finding out he had more chemo coming up than we thought) We go back in on Thursday, May 14 for a three day stay, two weeks later for a 5 day stay, then the 3 day stays will only be overnight stays for the last 2 treatments. (he will finish the doxyrubicin earlier than the cytoxin and the vincristin)

I hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend. Thank your mother! I thank God for my mother and especially for making me a mother three times over!!!
