Trace’ll got a surprise in the mail last week… it was a really cool jersey  from the minor league hockey team the Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins! The jersey was signed by the players from the team and was a gift from Joey Vitale #18. Chris met Joey’s sister Josie (Dr. Josie Vitale) while at a dermatologist appointment and she told her brother about Trace. Not too much later the jersey and an encouraging note was in the mail to Trace!  Another great group of guys that made Trace’s day! We will definitely be watching for Vitale in the NHL!

Trace’ll goes in Monday for his LAST round of chemo! This will be a 5 day stay, but he should finish in time to be at school for registration on Monday, August 3! I still don’t know how soon radiation will begin, but it should last for 12 treatments. I am thinking (hoping) he will be done in August. Regardless, he is finishing this whole treatment sooner than the Doctors expected. Such a little go-getter! Trace’ll is ready to get back on the ice and back to the inline hockey rink as well.

Thank you for all of the continued prayers and support!

Trace’ll had his 13th round of chemo on Monday and it went great! We didn’t have to stay in the clinic long since the Dr let me give him his IV fluids and some of his medications at home. By Tuesday, he was back on the tennis court and golf course playing with friends. It is hard to believe, but Lil’ Fighter only has one more round of chemo to go and he will be done. The last round will be a 5 day stay in the hospital and it will be from July 27-July 31. We should come home on Friday and be ready to register for school on Monday, August 3. The school officially begins on Wednesday, August 5. I am already looking forward to Fall Break!

Thank you again for all of your prayers. Please, pray for the lung tumors to disappear completely! I am unsure when lung radiation will begin, but I am guessing after chemo #14 is done and Trace’s counts come back up. (around 1-2 weeks after chemo)

Enjoy your summer!

Trace’ll is on his way to finishing Round #12

Posted in Daily Updates by Amy Kimler on July 2, 2009

Trace’ll got to the hospital on Monday to begin round #12. It always takes hours to get from the clinic to a room on the oncology floor and this time was no exception. Unfortunately, due to many lab delays and an error with his chemo he did not get his chemo started until Tuesday around 11am. This means he will not be home until late Friday night or Saturday morning. If all goes well, the Dr has said that we can go home after chemo on Friday night (around 9 or 10pm) and I can give him IV fluids and IV mesna at home. We won’t know for sure until Friday evening. We had planned on going to a July 4th party Friday night and playing tennis, golf and swimming on Saturday and hopefully some of that will still happen!

So far no booting and Trace’ll is eating good and up and moving around. He was looking for the occupational therapist today to go to the exercise room and work out. He has also been playing Wii with his left arm (he is right handed) to exercise the arm on the scapulectomy side. I told him I will play with him if he uses his left hand. He beats me to a pulp with his right hand and I get mad!!

Happy July 4th to you all and God Bless our Troops and Veterans!!!

Thank you for the continuing prayers and support from everyone. We still love to see Trace t-shirts around and we wear ours with pride!

If all stays on schedule, Trace will complete his chemo the Friday before school starts on Monday, August 3. I can’t believe he will be in 8th grade. Maddie will go to Middle School and Cole Boone will be in 4th grade. I am too young to have children this age. (especially when I tell people the age I want to tell them- 27) After chemo Lil’ Fighter has about 12 days of total lung radiation and hopefully we can  look back on this time instead of living in it.

Hope to see you all at the POOL!!

Love,

Amy
