The Nashville Predators Are Hockey Pros and Super Stars!!!

Posted in Daily Updates by Amy Kimler on October 30, 2009

The Predators hosted Hockey Fights Cancer last night and it was AWESOME! I have always loved the Predators, but last night sealed the deal! The night started with Trace’ll being the mayor of Smashville. There was an intro on the Vandy patients and Trace was introduced last. He got to drop the puck (he did drop it but it was basically a photo op – and a good one) Steve Sullivan gave Trace his stick (OMG!) and Lil’ Fighter got to tap knuckles with the whole team. After Sullivan, JP Dumont was the first player to come up to Trace’ll. (I love him, too!) The night’s intermission games were filled with kids in Lil’ Fighter t-shirts. It was an all around unforgettable night. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported Trace and to our family who drove to the game.

Especially thank you to the Predators and to Rebecca Ward. (my kids want to know if you and Joel are married?) You guys ROCK!

Predators Host Hockey Fights Cancer Tonight!

Posted in Daily Updates by Amy Kimler on October 29, 2009

Tonight the Predators play Chicago Blackhawks and it is Hockey Fights Cancer night. Trace’ll is the mayor of Smashville and gets to do some special things during and before the game. If anyone is going to the game, wear your Lil’ Fighter t-shirts. (the camera man will be looking for them) I hope the Preds have a great game, but regardless it will be an awesome night!

I should have pics on the website tomorrow!

Praise God for cancer free Trace’ll!

Scan Results Are In!

Posted in Daily Updates by Amy Kimler on October 21, 2009

We went to Dr. Mixon today and the news was good. The CT scan is clear except for the pneumonia and the 4mm ‘scar’. It is looking more like scar since this spot was once 20mm and stopped shrinking during chemo. Ewing’s sarcoma responds very well to radiation and the spot did not shrink after 24 treatments. 14 of those were directly to this spot. A scar will not shrink or grow and that is what this area is doing.

Trace’ll feels really good and the doctors were impressed with his attitude and stamina. He did play his ice hockey game last night and did pretty well. It was his first time back on the ice for a game. I dont’ think he was nervous about getting hit, but I was! He is back at school after a lunch out with me 🙂

Hockey Fights Cancer is coming up on Thursday, October 29. Anyone going to the Preds game that has a Big Swim or Lil’ Fighter t-shirt… We would love to see  you wearing it. The Predators are going to be looking for them.

Trace’s next CT and MRI will be January 21. They will be every 3-4 months for the first year, but will continue for 5 years. He also got his flu shot (regular flu shot) today and was none too happy about that. Trace’ll likes needles even more than his daddy does… sissies!

Thank you for your prayers.

God is Great!

Trace’ll Has Pneumonia, But Is Still Going Strong!

Posted in Daily Updates by Amy Kimler on October 20, 2009

Trace’ll and I went to Vanderblit for his CT and MRI. During the MRI (after the CT) the techs called me out and told me the doctor wanted to speak to me on the phone. All eyes were on me as I answered. The doctor on the phone asked me if the radiologist had told me what all she saw on the lung CT. Well, of course, I nearly lost my lunch, but it turns out she was talking about pneumonia. I politely suggested that next time she start out the conversation with your child has pneumonia so my heart wouldn’t stop beating! I had already suspected Trace had pneumonitis. (it is common after lung radiation and includes shortness of breath, low fever and cough) On Thursday in Disney, Trace’ll had a low fever. (never more than 99.8) He also had a mild fever on Friday and Saturday, but no shortness of breath or cough. On Sunday night he started coughing. I called the Radiation doctor who of course was not in on Monday. The office said I should take him to the ER. I HATE the ER. Anyway, the CT of the lung showed pneumonia not pneumonitis and after the MRI (this one only took 2 hours) we had to go to the ER. I was told it would be a short visit since he only needed a CBC drawn and to have a prescription written for antibiotics. Well… Since the nurse didn’t draw his lab for 2 1/2 hours (yes, I offered to draw it for her:) we were there until after midnight. We did get his two prescriptions and Trace’ll stayed home from school today (only because he was up so late). He has an ice hockey game tonight and a doctor’s appointment tomorrow morning. This appointment is with Dr. Mixon (our oncologist that we LOVE) and he will give us the results of the scans that were done Monday night.

Trace’ll feels fine, no fever since Saturday  but he is coughing. He always amazes me. At his inline game on Saturday, there were no subs for the first part of the game and Lil’ Fighter has as much stamina as anyone out there. Even after chemotherapy, radiation and with pneumonia. He is my hero.

Hockey Fights Cancer for the Predators is Thursday night, October 29. If anyone is planning on going, Trace’ll is going to be the ambassador for Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and the Predators. The Preds play the Chicago Blackhawks. The Preds have some special stuff lined up for Trace and if you are going, please, wear your Lil’ Fighter Kimler 9 shirts! Hopefully, there will be a big group of them there.

I will update the site after our visit with Dr. Mixon. I know it is going to be good news!!

Thank you all,

The Kimlers

A Wonderful Fall Break

Posted in Daily Updates by Amy Kimler on October 19, 2009

We went to Disney World and Sea World over fall break and it was wonderful!! We had five days at the Disney parks and water parks and made the most of everyone. Cole Booney isn’t too big on rides with ‘droppers or fallers’, but he rode Rock N Roller coaster several times and loved it. He also rode Everest at Animal Kingdom, but wouldn’t even be bribed to get on Tower of Terror with us. Maddie and Trace’ll will ride any ride they can get on and they rode everything! It was great, but of course exhausting.

Sea World was great also. The shows are fantastic and they have three awesome rides. (CB didn’t get on any of those) The kids sat in the soak zone at the dolphin and the whale shows and they definitely got soaked! That was fine since the whole time we were in Orlando the temperatures were in the 90s. They were having record high temps which is funny since the last time we went they were having record lows! I was afraid Trace’ll would get sunburned, but he didn’t. He is still super pale!

One of the nights we went to a restaurant called T-Rex and they brought Lil’ Fighter a huge volcano cake and sang to him to help him celebrate being through with chemotherapy and radiation. All of the kids loved that and Trace did especially.

It was great to see Trace’ll in the pool and going down water slides after being unable to get in the water for so long. He went swimming almost every night after the parks with Maddie and Booney. The Walters were at Disney at the same time and we were able to hook up with them for dinner. (I don’t think the cook or waiter will soon forget our Tennessee Crew 🙂

Trace’ll goes this afternoon for a CT scan and MRI. Hopefully, he will get done on time since he has a hockey game at 7:30. This is where we have to sit back and pray that these scans will remain clear and cancer free from here on out. We thank you all for the prayers and unending support you have shown us. I will let you know when we get the results from the scans.

Thank you all,

Amy
