Just wanted you to know I think bald is beautiful too and it will grow back after you finish all of this chemo. Your cousin Peggy’s grew back and it was thicker and prettier than it had been before chemo. Tell your Dad I can’t wait to see his bald head – try not to laugh to hard at him once he shaves it off. I will have to get a picture of both of you together. Well have a great day and enjoy the game. Lots of love and hugs Grandma

Marilyn Meyer a good friend of mine told me about your current situation. Prayer is a powerful thing and I just wanted to make you aware there’s a family in Shepherd, Michigan that is praying for you thoughout the day everyday. It involves a popular new song that we have reworded for you! I wish we could play guitar hero with it to add to the effect. Hallie is the only one who can sing in tune so Kenner and I might just lip sync. We are glad that you got to go to school today. I know that you have really been through a lot but you have shown such strength. You are an inspiration to so many kids and adults. Kenner really looks up to you and asks about you all the time. Trace,

This sounds like good news to me. At your age, you can build up muscles to compensate for what is taken during surgery! You are so active and I feel sure that will be a big help.

As far as falling off a cliff, just don’t get too close to the edge. Now there is nothing to be concerned about! I’ve never been very strong and don’t get close to any edges. It works for me! 🙂

Take care and know that we all love you and are behind you 110%. Go, Trace!

Also, I remember well your mother, Amy. You have a wonderful family and I hope you continue to get well. Vanderbilt is the best hospital! My family & I were injured 4-2-06 in a tornado. Vanderbilt is where I woke up. They took such great care of me. I have had 12 surgeries so far and 1 more to go. Glad to be alive. I wouldn’t let anyone else take care of me at this point except for Vanderbilt. They are great!!! Tell your mom & Uncle Errol that I said, “Hi!”. Hope you have a wonderful day and you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I am really sorry I didn’t get to slip over to see you today- my mom was in the ER all day and I didn’t leave there until late. I also didn’t even know you could have visitors during your rounds up there- good excuse to have a party (even if only 2 people can join you at a time). We got our shirts on today. It is Spirit Day at ILE and Whitney wore her Lil’ Fighter shirt since you have the MOST Spirit. Whitney thought that everyone would think that she liked Cole, since he is in her class. You know how that stuff goes on in 3rd grade. But I told her not to worry and just tell the story behind the shirt. She was proud to wear it. Thank you for all your courage. You have really inspired my girls.

    Hey Trace:

A good friend of ours, Carrie Allen, just sent us the link to your site. We’ve been reading through it and learning about you and your family. Wow, what a journey you’ve all been on.

Carrie’s husband, John, works with your Dad. We know Carrie because her parents are our next door neighbors here in Marietta, GA. We’ve been lucky enough to see Carrie grow up, get married and have a wonderful baby boy. Carrie sent us your link because – small world – our son, Will, who’s 12 years old and in the 6th grade, also had Ewing’s Sarcoma. Carrie thought it would be a good idea for us to reach out to you, your Mom & Dad to say hello and see if we can be of help.

Will was diagnosed in 2003 when he was in kindergarten. His tumor was in the left fibula (lower part of the leg). He had his chemo here in Atlanta and his limb salvage surgery at MD Anderson in Houston. We’re very blessed that Will passed his 5 year check last October. He’s a big sports guy too – we call him “walking Sports Center” – and he plays basketball and travel baseball. We help many of the newly diagnosed families here in Atlanta and we volunteer with Make a Wish, CURE Childhood Cancer and the Rally Foundation. As you probably already know, once cancer hits your family, it’s hard not to stay involved and help others who are diagnosed.

Our email address is hennessy@mindspring.com If your parents want to email, that would be great. Keep up your awesome attitude and we’ll be praying hARD that your surgery goes great this week.

    Best!

I saw a link to your TV story on Chase’s website. Chase touched our lives so much. So you have truly fulfilled a dream in lots of hearts. You also have something in common with my daughter. September 2007 she was diagnosed with Ewing’s. Hers was in the soft tissue of the chest wall. She finished treatment last April, if fact she will get her one year follow up scans on Wednesday. I would stop by your room and say hi but she has strep throat and we don’t want to pass that along. I’ll be praying for you tomorrow as you go through your surgery. Hello, Trace & family –

Saw your story on the news and just wanted to say “Hang in there”

My daughter Catie had a rare form of osteosarcoma and was treated for several years at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. I noticed that Dr Schwartz is your surgeon. He did 4 of Catie’s surgeries (she had both of her upper arms replaced with cadaver bone and her left knee/femur replaced). We think he’s a super surgeon and I know you’ll do fine with him. Believe in him and yourself! Catie was told that on the biggest arm surgery that she’d only get about 40-50% of her mobility back and she worked so hard that she got back almost 70%.
You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. You seem like such a warrior – I know you will come through this surgery with flying colors and have a speedy recovery. Keep that big grin on your face and you’ll be back on the ice soon! We know the fight that this is – but you are in great hands at Vandy! God bless you all.

You don’t know me but in some ways we are part of the same family. I am Chase Donnell’s dad. Thank you Trace so much for thinking of him during your time on the bench with the Preds. Like you he was a huge fan and like you he was always thinking of others. I always feel like he is sitting over there with the guys at every game I go to. It sounds like you two would have been great friends. Keep fighting and feel free to shoot me an e-mail anytime. Hang in there Mom & Dad, it sounds like you have an awesome son. I know how long those days seem sitting at that hospital and how sick you get of Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. You will be in my prayers and when the time is right maybe we can catch a Preds game together. Please contact me anytime.

    Trace,

We have never met but we share something in common, I too had Ewing’s sarcoma at a young age. I was 16 when I was diagnosed with it. I read your story today and saw the Ch. 5 clip from the other night and wanted to let you and your family know that you have another supporter in your corner. I am very impressed by your great outlook on your illness. It is inspirational to see. I know what this cancer can do to you and you’re in great hands with Dr. Schwartz, something else we have in common. He wasn’t my Dr. when I had my cancer but when I moved here, my Dr. from NY referred me to him as my follow up guy and he is a wonderful Dr.

We share something else, a love for the Predators. I’m so glad that they have been there for you and that you were able to be their stick boy. That must’ve been a great night for you.

All that said, if you or your family ever need someone to talk to about anything let me know because as much as most people can empathize with your situation, I truly know what it’s like to be in your shoes. I have been cancer free for 22 years now and I’ll be 40 later this year so you have a lot to look forward to in life. You and your family will be in my prayers. Stay well and get ready for the playoffs, I think we’re gonna do some damage this year.

I just wanted to let you know you are in my daily prayers. You are one tough guy. I draw strength from your story and as do many , many others. Your bulldog mentality is something not many people have and it will serve you well all your life. You are one special young man. Your friend,

Hi Trace! It’s quite an experience reading about all your activities- the fun, and not so fun ones- and your fighting spirit! Did you ever imagine how many people you and your family inspire! Wow! It’s mind boggling. Congratulations on the all A’s report card; you know even retired teachers love to hear that! I just had a little surgery myself and thinking of your courage gave me the desire to get up and out of bed in a hurry. Thanks for being a shining example of a champion! Love and prayers, Dottie

Hi Trace, I am a friend of your Granny and Granddaddy You are so blessed to have them in your life and so am I. They love you and your family so-o-o much. You are a walking, talking, breathing testimony of what God can do when we rely on him. You have deepened my faith even more by your walk with God. Always in my prayers, Love, Judy

Trace…Just wanted you to know I continue to have you in my prayers and thoughts. Can not believe summer is going so fast. I have zero typing skills so this will be short…unlike my class discussions. Love Mrs.Shinn

Hey Superman! Hear that you’re showing off that fighting spirit again! Wish we had a daughter your age so that she could meet you and…..then, later on maybe we could be relatives. Guess we’ll have to be satisfied being fortunate friends. You continue to inspire and uplift our spirits. Save some energy for Disney World and please don’t pinch Minnie Mouse! Some old guy really got in trouble when he did that. Take care and remember we love ya! D. and J.

    Amy,

Hi! We recently asked the Cookies for Kids Cancer Facebook group to tell us some of their favorite blogs and yours was a popular one! We were excited to see a “familiar face” since we had heard from you previously on our FB! I wanted to contact you with a little more information but I didn’t see your email anywhere on the sight. I would love to hear from you – my email is nicole_fiehler@cookiesforkidscancer.org.

    Thanks!

    Nicole
